In 2016 the City contacted us and told us we had to register our property for an inspection and pay the requires fees. We complied, paid the fees and had the inspection performed. The property passed the inspection as we felt it would since we follow the rules and require our tenants to do the same. Now that it appears that this ill conceived program is being repealed, I contacted the City to see when we could expect to receive a refund of our fees. I was told that since the ordinance was in effect in 2016 it was a legitimate collection of our fee and we would not be receiving a refund. I asked how many people did not sign up as they were required to do and would they be pursued for their fees. I was told there was about 1,000 people, that ignored the "legitimate" requirement, and that there was no direction to staff to pursue them. So it seems that those that followed the rules, paid their fees and took the time to have the inspection are being penalized and those that ignored the "legitimate" requirement are getting off without having to pay anything. This makes me think that in the future one is better off ignoring your ordinances rather than following the them. You can't agree that this is how we should behave in the future. I would like very much to hear what the council intends to do about this situation. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, JOHN ROSSETTI
