Doug, under the Elections Code, there is no opportunity to amend or withdraw proposed initiative language
once filed. The only options available to the Council at this point are to adopt the measure as proposed or call
an election and place the measure before the voters.
Best,
Christine

Subject: Section 15.10.010 Language
Dear Christine,
I just read Stew Jenkins' article, "Direct Democracy:A Powerful Legal Remedy," in the March -April 2017 Bar
Bulletin. I noted the inaccuracy of the proposed language for SECTION 15.10.010.
On March 18, I wrote to Stew and suggested removing "sexual identity" and instead adding "sexual orientation and gender
identity." As far as I know, there is no definition of "sexual identity." In addition, the language does not include transgender persons (gender
identity and/or gender expression). Last evening Stew responded that he believes the current language is sufficient. I know Stew's heart is in
the right place, but I disagree that the language is sufficient. While I disagree, I also do not wish to be an obstructionist.
Is there any way to revise the wording at this time? If yes, what would be the consequences of changing the wording at this point in time?
I realize that I personally am not a City of SLO resident, but many GALA and Tranz Central Coast members are. I appreciate your
consideration of my request.
Sincerely,
Douglas J. Heumann, Esq
