I have been designing, building and maintaining open space trails in and around SLO for 15 years and am an avid mountain biker and long time member of Central Coast Concerned Mountain Bikers. For years before I retired, I enjoyed weekly organized Wednesday night bike rides year round. In those days, there was little resistance from the community and the dusk to dawn policy was not enforced. Times have changed obviously. These days, I prefer riding during the daytime, not dealing with bike lights and doing other activities during nighttime hours. But if I was still working during the day, the ability to ride a couple of hours after work during the week would be a high priority for me. I have never had an accident riding at night even though I was less experienced in those days. Trail conflicts are also reduced when night riding since hikers receive more warning of approaching bikes. My daughter enjoys hiking at night and I feel it's important that the city adopt an official policy allowing such activities in open space areas besides Bishops Peak. I appreciate your support in extending use hours in SLO City Open Space. A one year trial period in the areas identified above would be a logical first step to a permanent policy. Robert Nanninga SLO
