We are in support of this project for many reasons. Housing is greatly needed and this project seems to make the most of a property that has fallen into disrepair over the years. It is on a site that can absorb the density and offers the type of housing options this city greatly needs. Not everyone is looking for a traditional single family home, especially this close to Cal Poly and the downtown. It offers a new option for housing an area well suited for it. It also preserves the historic Stanford House and highlights it among the new housing elements. As the employment hub of our County, there has been an absence of affordable housing options in the City of San Luis Obispo for too long and we are seeing young professionals, and families driven out of town because of it. Forcing people to move to "more affordable" neighboring cities puts an extra strain on our existing infrastructure in addition to the negative environmental impacts commuting contributes to. I have a concern that a lot of negative attention has been placed on building height options recently and that the City of SLO has missed opportunities to take advantage of height, increased density and greatly needed affordable options in our area. We now have an opportunity to utilize a site already next to well-planned higher density senior living facility, The Villages, and it is time for the City to consider something new and innovative for our neighborhood and residents. I feel this project has been carefully designed to meet the specific needs of the neighbors, businesses, and long term planning goals of San Luis Obispo. I urge you to move the approval for this project forward and support the much needed housing the residents and council members have recognized as a major city goal. Thank You, Richard LeRoy San Luis Obispo, CA 93405
