Subject: 71 Palomar is a Great Project
Lets face it.. Infill projects are not easy. They aren't easy to figure out the best use for the developer, they aren't easy to
match all the styles of the surrounding neighborhood, and they especially are not easy when it comes to making all the
surrounding land owners happy. This is an unfortunate consequence of infill. Someone is going to be unhappy.
I can understand how this is something of concern if a project were being proposed that was pushing the envelope of
every ordinance, zoning regulation or City code/ standard but this 71 Palomar Project is not asking for anything special.
In fact, this is the perfect recipe for urban infill - no exceptions, no variances, no "bending of the rules" at all. This is
project that is following every guideline, every code requirement and every zoning restriction.
I realize that not everyone can be happy when it comes to development in their backyard but they City determined the
best use of this land with the LUCE update and determined it should be higher density. I am happy to see that a
developer has found a solution to our local housing crisis by providing rental housing that fits within the current zoning
for the property and also has taken great strides to create an overall architectural style that balances the surrounding
single family homes while also providing housing for many young professionals or students - all of which share the right
to safe, clean and new housing.
Please deny the appeal of this project and allow new rental housing to be built in San Luis Obispo.. something that is
very much overdue.
Thank you
