Subject: Re: Conceptual Review of the Palm/Nipomo Parking Garage
Dear planning Commission,
I ask you to request a comprehensive parking study and review of more sites that will likely be more important than
this unnecessary one. Please see how this site has been promoted with some grand notion that is needs to serve an arts
district. A more appropriate use of public funds would be, for example, a joint city -county structure at Monterey and
Toro. This structure has been recommended since 1993 in the Downtown Concept Plan. It would spur mixed use
housing projects which could use parking in -lieu fees, and put the focus on substantial development outside the
downtown core zone.
I agree with Allan Cooper's letter and in particular the better option to use the funds for multi -modal transportation.
I would appreciate if one or more of the commissioners respond and discuss public testimony such as this.
Thank you.
