Public Comment on non -agenda item:
Parkland reserve fund for North Broad Park, Petition of Support
Mayor Harmon and City Council Members,
Thank you for giving me the platform to speak to you tonight.
Please keep all of the money in the North Broad Parkland reserve fund for what it
was intended for, to help the city purchase land for a park in the North Broad
area when property becomes available.
A neighborhood park in this area of San Luis Obispo has been in the general
plan for over 40 years and has also been listed as an unmet goal in the Parks
and Rec Element since 1982.
Neighbors are organizing. Flyers are being distributed to homes in the North
Broad area informing neighbors about the parkland fund. Neighbors have been
talking about potential sites. We are excited to finally be getting a park.
am here tonight to present this petition of signatures. We support building a
park in the North Broad Area of San Luis Obispo and are asking that the City
actively assists in the acquisition of land for this purpose.
Using money specifically earmarked in the parkland fund to pay for anything
other than a North Broad area park is unacceptable. We realize that more
money will be needed to completely establish a neighborhood park and we are
willing to help in the process
Please redirect staff back to the intention of the parkland fund. Please tell staff to
look for land for a park in the North Broad area of San Luis Obispo. Neighbors
are willing to assist staff in this task.
