We are losing great young professionals and families, not only to neighboring cities, but to other parts of the country. If we want our business to continue to thrive, they need access to wonderful employees, who need to be able to afford homes. The diverse range of affordable and workforce housing can begin to put a dent in the supply we so desperately need! Personally, my husband and I own a small business in SLO and have for 4 years. We live in Atascadero and commute 40 miles per work day, sometimes 80. We can't always carpool because we have a 3 month old. Just last week I drove with my daughter to a meeting at 6:45 am and stayed in SLO until I lam. I drove back home to Atascadero so the baby could nap and have some time in her own environment. I then had to drive back to SLO at 4:30pm to be at another meeting that evening. If we were able to afford a home in SLO, this would have saved me well over 70 miles of commuting and putting my little one at higher risk on the highway. We have envisioned ourselves living in San Luis Obispo but never thought it was possible until a friend told us about San Luis Ranch. Again, I urge you to support San Luis Ranch to help me, a new mom, a business owner, stay local and continue to support our local economy. Best regards, Ashley Gorshack
