Below is my letter in support of San Luis Ranch from the 5/24 Planning Commission meeting. I still feel very strongly about these points
and I urge you to support the project. Even if I can't afford this housing once it is built, it may still drive down the incredible rental prices
that landlords are able to charge because of the high demand for housing. SLO NEEDS MORE HOUSING, and this project seems like
a good fit for our community for many reasons. Again, I urge you to please support this project.

I support Workforce Housing
Dear Planning Commission:
RECEIVED
CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
JUN 0 6 2017
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
I urge you to support the San Luis Ranch project because if you work here, you should be able to live here.
We are losing great young professionals and families, not only to neighboring cities, but to other parts of the
country. If we want our business to continue to thrive, they need access to wonderful employees, who need
to be able to afford homes. The diverse range of affordable and workforce housing can begin to put a dent in
the supply we so desperately need!
I am one of those young professionals. I am a 36 -year-old early childhood educator with a masters degree in
education. I live with roommates. It's not my ideal situation but it's what I can afford, even in the rental
market, here in this town that I've called home for over 15 years. I have more stories to share from others
like me Wednesday night who can't make the meeting because of work obligations or child care concerns.
See you Wednesday!
Sincerely,
Kari Applegate
