This project has many potential benefits to our community. In addition to the reduction of greenhouse emissions from commuting into the City for work and utilization of infill land within the City limits, this project also increases availability of housing for the growing workforce which is crucial to the City maintaining economic vitality. As an employer, it is very, very difficult to attract new hires to the area or to even retain the talent of Cal Poly graduates to stay and work in San Luis Obispo. The City loses out on keeping the brilliant minds of many Cal Poly graduates here in our community to areas with higher wages and more affordable housing. Additionally, we are unable to attract experienced professionals to San Luis Obispo as the minute they look at housing prices and the wages we are able to offer, they quickly decline any offers of employment. A majority of my staff live outside the City and commute into San Luis Obispo for work. Of those, many have young families who in turn suffer due to the commute. They are unable to do things as simple as attending their children's school events. When a child is ill or has an appointment, they frequently miss an entire day of work to be able to take their children to the dentist. The bottom line is San Luis Obispo needs housing. The San Luis Ranch project is a well thought out and smart development, in a smart location. Please support this project moving forward. Thank you, ONI Michelle McCovey-Good, P.E.
