Even though I make a comfortable salary, the cost of housing in SLO is so high and the lack of housing options is so intense that when I had a chance to telecommute and move back to the east coast, I took the opportunity. I moved to the east coast even though it wasn't my preference- just because of the housing issue. While living in SLO, I had to move rental units more than once in less than 2 years due to the high demand. I was living in a rental that was over a third of my $100k+ salary because of the lack of options. I have enough saved up for a down payment for a house but can't find something reasonable and close enough to my office. Because I've transferred into a new position in my company, (and I miss SLO that much) I'm moving back in a couple months - but my biggest worry is about finding housing. If I could buy a small, eco -friendly house in the $400s I would be so happy! I'm in my 30s and have always rented. My dream is to own a home in SLO and be able to live and work here for the long term, and raise a family. Please approve the Avila Ranch project for people like me.
