Once a part of the county and now a part of the city, it has been farmed for as long as I can remember. And while it was farmed the area around it grew to include grocery stores, coffee shops, an athletic club, pharmacies, auto repair shops, manufacturing facilities and I suspect more to come. It has nearly all of the ingredients necessary to create a walkable, self-contained community. And for those services not located within walking distance, there is a public bus to the SLO Transit Center and from there to most other SLO city and county locations. From my viewpoint this location meets almost all of what I need to enjoy life while minimizing the need for a car. What is missing though is attractive and affordable housing. The proposed Avila Ranch project provides this. As the public comments on this project, I ask you to reflect on my comments and the opportunity for the City to create something unique and beneficial for the citizens of San Luis Obispo for decades to come. Please support the Avila Ranch project and the opportunity for me to be a part of what I see to be a great new San Luis Obispo neighborhood. Tha u, n M. Gardner PS: I understand the difficult intersection at Vachell Lane and South Higuera will be fixed as part of this project. This is a welcome improvement.
