COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
The Home Builders Association of the Central Coast (HBACC) represents over 130 companies in the home building
and related industries, and well over 1000 head of household paying jobs.
Housing is of critical concern on the Central Coast. A vibrant community relies upon adequate housing supply for its
workforce, in order for our citizens to work, live, and play in their community. Because the city of SLO has increased
jobs and population faster than supplying adequate housing, we have found ourselves in a housing crisis. Although
there is no one single answer to the crisis, adding much needed housing supply that conforms with our city goals and
housing elements is one way to help. Our residents deserve a place to call home close to where they work and play,
and not be forced to commute because they can only find a dwelling they can afford far outside of city limits. When
our workforce is compelled to commute long distances simply due to affordability, both our environment and quality
of living and community are degraded.
The HBACC respectfully urges you to do what is necessary to add sorely needed housing supply on the Central Coast.
Respectfully,
Jeff Eckles
