Our business attracts young professionals who are the life -blood of a vibrant community. Our reputation and the beauty of the central coast allows us to attract some of the best and brightest. Our biggest challenge is the lack of housing in San Luis Obispo. Many of our staff are forced to commute from Paso Robles, Atascadero, Santa Maria, and elsewhere due to the lack of an affordable home inventory in San Luis Obispo. I support the Avila Ranch project which would increase the quality of life of all San Luis Obispo residents through reduced regional traffic, increased property tax funding for local infrastructure improvements (parks, pedestrian and bicycle corridors, etc), and a community vibrancy that is dependent on young families. Opponents to housing projects lament that an increased population brings change. We cannot afford San Luis Obispo to become a town with only college students and retired persons. The good old days have always been when young families stroll Farmer's Market, our schools are bustling, and our Holiday Parade is a family event. I live in the Arbors neighborhood. Those homes were sold to young families and the neighborhood still has a family feel even though most of the kids have gone away to college or soon will. We need housing opportunities and neighborhoods for them and their peers; they are the future of San Luis Obispo. Yours, Marshall Pihl, SE Cannon Structural Director San Luis Obispo resident
