RECEIVED CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO MAY 3 1 2017 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT I am writing to show my support of the Avila Ranch Housing development. As a lifetime SLO County resident, and 12 -year SLO City resident, my husband and I have struggled to find affordable housing. We have rented in SLO and have watched our rents regularly increase but have "put up with it" because this is where we work and have our son enrolled in school. Further, we love "living the SLO life" and are willing to wait to purchase the right home here in SLO. During the last year, we have even tried purchasing here in SLO. Over a period of 11 months, we placed offers on seven different homes, most of which went into bidding wars. My husband and I have good jobs (he's a CPA and I do Marketing for a well-established engineering firm) but we could not compete with those purchasing in our price range. Many of the homes that we placed offers on won out to all-cash investment offers. A working family with 10% down isn't as attractive as all-cash. So what are we to do? The Avila Ranch development offers affordable, attractive, and a geographically mindful approach to housing. We look at this development as an opportunity to get into the market and have our own little slice of the pie. Workforce housing keeps employees local, reducing commute times while providing an improved quality of life. Let's make SLO a little happier for those who work here! Please consider this development in a favorable light. If you have any questions or would like clarification as to why I am supporting Avila Ranch, please feel free to email or call me.
