Subject: Need for Housing
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
I learned of the Avila Ranch project quite some time ago and have been looking forward to the oppor un? y orp— ic"iy
supporting this much needed project in our community.
Both mine and my husbands families have been residents of SLO for nearly 40 years. We both work full time, he as an engineer
at Lockheed Martin and I am a local business owner. We have two kids that are in public school ages of 8 and 11. We both
have experienced our own challenges with the cost of housing as well as many families close to us that are well earning
professionals in our community. We have recently been house hunting and have temporarily shelved the idea of owning a
home as most are either in the $500K range that need A LOT of work or homes that are move in ready in a good neighborhood
and school district that are approaching $1+ million. However, nothing in between this mid to high price range. We are
fortunate enough to have the opportunity to rent from a family member until we are in a position to look again. There are too
many families that we know that have either moved out of area or commute.
My family has had a large part in developing projects that are very industrial and complicated in both San Luis Obispo and
Santa Barbara Counties. I've had the opportunity to take our own projects through the permitting and land use entitlement
process for over 10 years in both Counties. I can certainly understand and appreciate the effort our State, Federal and Local
Agencies and experts go through to ensure responsible planning and building through the EIR process. It's simply not an option
in our County or Cities to grow irresponsibly. I have full confidence that this project has been looked at with a very fine tooth
comb through the EIR process. I'm even more confident that with this team of owner/developers willing to stick with this
process that they are fully committed to smart, responsible growth. If it's not them, it will be someone else because the NEED
IS SO GREAT FOR HOUSING. I'd much rather support our local owner/developers that have a sincere vested interest in making
our "village" better as they have generations of family members and loved ones that truly live it and are affected by it daily.
We fully support and thank this team of owner/developers for committing the financial resources and time it has taken to bring
Avila Ranch this far. My family and I can genuinely appreciate the effort and commitment it takes. My hope they will continue
to see this project through with the support that it warrants. This will have an incredible positive affect on the quality of life for
so many deserving, hard working families who wish to stay in our wonderful community.
Our deeply rooted SLO County family and friends are in FULL SUPPORT of Avila Ranch. It can't happen soon enough.
Thank you for your time.
