In advance of this week's Planning Commission meeting, I wish to encourage your processing of the
existing Avila Ranch for approval in its current form. This project is one that is so important to provide
work force housing in our community. So many of our employees in San Luis Obispo cannot find
affordable housing, thereby requiring them to commute daily to theirjobs . This housing is needed so
badly to reduce traffic, air pollution and congestion. This is in addition to the loss of productive human
resources driving to and from work each day.
This project has been specifically designed for smaller units and affordability, and includes amenities
that support our way of life in San Luis Obispo, and our culture here. The concepts that have been
created within the development have taken advantage of the goals of our community development and
the General Plan, including everything envisioned in the LUCE. This project is being developed by a
local developer who has his heart in doing the right thing as the firm has roots inour community. The
project respects the beauty and agrarian feel of San Luis Obispo.
Having been involved in the Land Use Planning Process for over 40 years of my Ife, I believe this is one of
the best proposals this city has ever seen. This is the right project, inthe right location, for the right
demographics and atthe righttime.
Please consider your vote carefully and provide your support for this critical project going forward.
Good planning is good for everyone. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration in moving this great
project forward.
Sincerely,
William A. Thoma,
