HomeMy WebLinkAbout06_28-29_2017 PC Correspondence - Avila Ranch (Wulff) From: Deborah Wulff < Sent: Tuesday, June 27, 2017 6:49 PM To: Advisory Bodies Subject: Avila Ranch Project Dear SLO Planning Commission: Kim Bisheff, Scott Mann, Nicholas Osterbur, Hemalata Dandekar, Ronald Malak, John Fowler, and Charles Stevenson, I would like to address my professional and personal concerns regarding the lack of housing in San Luis Obispo. Professionally, Cuesta College has had top recruits, both managers and faculty, decline offered positions due to the cost and lack of available housing. The college has also lost several employees who have left after the first or second year, because of the housing crisis. San Luis Obispo has lost many young professionals who want to dedicate their working lives as educators but cannot afford to live where they serve. Personally, I moved to San Luis Obispo in 2008 and accepted the positon prior to understanding the difficulty of finding housing. Over the last nine years, I have rented four different homes. Finding each rental more difficult than the previous one because of the competitive market. I finally purchased a home in June 2016 but found the experience difficult because of the lack of options. What I find disappointing is that my daughter (who is a professional), and her family will never be able to afford to live in San Luis Obispo. They purchased a home in Atascadero. I am asking for you to support new housing in San Luis Obsipo. =_ • ED hECEIVED Respectfully, CITY OF SAN LMS OBISPO JUN 18 2017 Deborah COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Deborah Wulff, Ed.D.
