I am writing in support of the proposed Avila Ranch Project, which will soon come before you
regarding its final land use determination. Obviously, this project has long been within the City's
boundary intended for residential development. It comes forward at a time when workforce housing
of all categories is desperately needed.
As San Luis Obispo continues to thrive and expand its various job centers, the local work force needs
housing close by and ideally within the City. The needed housing must be designed to accommodate all
lifestyles and price ranges.
As a member of the City's LUCE committee, Avila Ranch was and continues to be an important
opportunity to help satisfy the City's housing demand. The proposal before you appears consistent
with the LUCE objectives and will help fulfill housing needs now and in the future, as it is developed
over a 10/20 year development horizon.
Therefore, I encourage you to seriously consider the proposal, making sure that it accommodates the
kind of housing needed by today's residents. Equally important is that it's implemented with the
quality and design character appropriate for an area of the community, which will be the southern
edge of the City.
