Vele the undersigned residents of Cazadero Street and the San Luis Drive neighborhoods respectfully
request a meeting with you to discuss the planned removal of the trees which provide a buffer
between the school and our neighborhood. We ask that the tree removal scheduled for this
Wednesday, July 5, be postponed until a meeting can be held to discuss our concerns so that we can
reach an amicable solution.

Oak without it being protected. Certainly, the "Little People" couldn't get
away with it. Contrary to the spin by your construction folks, none of us had
any idea this was going to happen.
We were led to believe by the flyer we all received in late April that the
trees would remain and the new building in the same spot as the old
classrooms as depicted. It wasn't until we asked for the actual layout last
week did we find out the real plan. We have also asked for the utility
trenching to see if our own trees will be affected two weeks ago and nothing
has materialized. Time certainly seems to be of the essence here. Yours truly
in pure frustration,
John Salisbury

SAN LUIS COASTAL
I i ?';3
April 24, 2017
To Our Neighbors at San Luis Obispo High School:
As part of San Luis Coastal Unified School District's Measure D projects, San Luis Obispo High School will be undergoing
renovations, modernizations and new building construction. We are currently launching staging plans and some utility
work that began on April 17t' with work ramping up after school gets out in early June.
This summer's largest project to get underway -is the new Annex Classroom building. In preparation for this new
construction, we will be evaluating the property lines with adjacent residences and securing a fence without access to
the school property for the safety of both the community and construction workers. Although the school site is not
completely closed to public use, it will become more limited and access around construction areas will be directed by
signs and fencing. Please use public entrances to gain access to school property and follow the signs and/or fencing.
Work on the Annex project is expected to wrap up in late 2018.
New 12 Classroom Annex Wing
We will do our best to limit the amount of noise and disruption to you throughout all construction phases. If you have
any concerns, you can reach out to Steve Stewart, Assistant Director of Facilities & Construction at sstewartpsicasd,0r
p.
Safety and security is our top priority. The project team kindly requests that for the duration of construction work,
neighbors and visitors keep a safe distance from construction zones, park vehicles away from fenced areas, and instruct
students and/or children of the dangers of construction areas and the necessity to remain a safe distance away. We
look forward to making San Luis Obispo High the best facility it can be for our studentsl
Kindest Regards,

Note sent to Kathryn Rogers - School Board
7/4/17
Good Evening, Kathryn. Just to alert you that when and if the tree company
comes tomorrow (Wednesday) they will be met at first light with a lot of
local neighbors of yours protesting the cutting of the trees at SLOHS. Maridel
and I were just told a couple of days ago by Anthony Palazzo it will be a
while before cutting down the trees because the project hasn't even gone
out to bid yet.
Then a text from the same Mr. Palazzo the next day to our immediate
neighbor Tina Hino that the even though the project hasn't even been
approved by the State yet, they will be cutting down the trees starting
tomorrow through Friday and construction starting in September. I am sure
you can appreciate our exasperation with the School District that we are
getting completely different stories and there seems to be a rush to chop
down the trees (evidence) now while everyone is in a Fourth Of July holiday
mode.
Tina and I met with the Mayor yesterday, who was quite dismayed, and I
am set to discuss the matter with at the City Council tomorrow night but it
may be too late which seems to have been the plan all along hence the rush.
I have also met with the City Arborist and the Tree Committee, also upset,
who will take up the matter next month - again too late. We have a rather
long signed petition asking the School District and City Council to sit with us
and discuss the problem. But if the trees are gone, it won't make a
difference except for the nearness of the classrooms with no protections
from missing trees and foliage.
The solution is so simple. Move the building in line with the old Gym like
the last building up 20 feet, as you claim you thought it was going to go, and
the trees will be saved and the building not put 10 paces from our back
fences. There will still be the 40+ feet on the east side and at least 65 feet
between the new classrooms and the Music Department for fire equipment
plus give us some space for fire control access for our homes and also for
the back of the classrooms. The large handicapped ramp can be replaced
with a simple lift at the low end onto the Quad.
Again, I am a farmer by trade and hardly a community activist but this time
it is my ox being gored and I will only be taken down from the tree by force
tomorrow, after two other generations of my family come safely down, and
probably be arrested for civil disobedience. KSBY, the Sierra Club, Cal Coast
News, and the Tribune might also be in attendance.
Please stop this madness and let's work out a compromise instead of this
being rammed down our throats. No one other than the government can cut
down a 9- foot diameter, 19 -foot circumference, 60 by 60 foot healthy Live
