HomeMy WebLinkAboutMTC 07-12-2017, Item 3c - HunterJohn  Logan  Hunter,  Jr.     1357  Phillips  Lane   San  Luis  Obispo  CA  93401   (626)  664-­‐4412   JLoganh5@hotmail.com     9  July  2017     John  Osumi     Chair,  Mass  Transportation  Committee       Re:  Discussion  Item  3C,  “Update  on  Implementation  of  SRTP.”       Dear  Chair  Osumi  &  Members  of  the  Mass  Transportation  Committee,       I  was  a  participant  in  the  public  process  accompanying  the  development  of  the  Short  Range   Transit  Plan.  Of  particular  concern  to  my  neighborhood  was  the  Phillips/Pepper  loop.  Over   the  course  of  this  public  process,  I  was  assured  unequivocally  and  without  qualification   that   SLO   Transit   would   no   longer   operate   on   the   Phillips/Pepper   loop   beginning   last   month,  June  2017.  You  are  well  aware  that  this  did  not  come  to  be.       The  SRTP  was  presented  to  the  public  via  this  advisory  body,  the  Planning  Commission,   and  the  City  Council.    In  each  iteration,  the  Phillips/Pepper  loop  was  not  shown  on  the  plan.   At  no  time  in  the  public  process  did  any  member  of  the  MTC,  the  Planning  Commission,  or   the  City  Council  question  this  change  or  indicate  his  or  her  preference  that  SLO  Transit   service  remain  on  this  loop.       The  development  of  the  SRTP  was  a  colossal  effort,  demanding  funding1,  a  dedication  of   time  by  Mr.  Anguiano  and  his  staff,  countless  hours  of  review  by  this  advisory  body,  the   Planning   Commission,   the   City   Council,   and   concerned   members   of   the   public,   and   a   contract  with  LSC  Transportation  Consultants.  It  should  be  followed.       A  discussion  on  the  implementation  of  the  SRTP  and  possible  improvements  to  the  fall   schedule  is  on  the  agenda  for  the  July  12  MTC  meeting.  Respect  for  the  public  process   demands   that   any   improvements   to   the   fall   schedule   include   adherence   to   the  route   changes  in  SRTP  as  it  was  presented.           Sincerely,        Logan  Hunter                                                                                                                   1A  total  of  $500,000,  according  to  the  City  of  San  Luis  Obispo’s  “2015-­‐17  Financial  Plan  –  Significant   Operating  Program  Changes”
