My children are now all grown. Careers, marriage and new babies have found them scattered from the Bay Area to the Central Coast, but none live in the city of SLO. Cost and availability of housing are prohibitive to them. All my kids participated in athletic events from an early age and I loved hiking and biking with them all over San Luis Obispo. My kids volunteered for community causes and had a real sense of community. There was a comment made by a young family many years ago that moved from SLO to Bakersfield that hit home . They said that even though they loved living here, they were able to BUY a home there and could finally have a life in Bakersfield by being able to buy a home! It makes me sad to know that that same experience in the town where they grew up will not be theirs. I believe as a community we owe it our young generations to help create a path for a productive future. In SLO, that means housing. If not it will be a town that will be dominated by people like me who moved here years ago and not have the young families who make SLO feel alive!! We need Avila Ranch. I hope you will support it.
