After watching the architectural flyover, I'm very excited to see this project complete. I live on Price St and run past the old Foster's Freeze weekly on my way to the Lemon Grove Loop at San Luis Mountain. In my head I always say to myself, "what a great piece of property, but when are they going to take advantage of building a vibrant destination, where locals and tourists can congregate and interact. I strongly feel San Luis Square will provide this atmosphere. An atmosphere needed to extend the vibrant Downtown, by connecting this cool industrial section with uses everyone can enjoy. As community members, we need to support gentrification in this area. When people enter or leave SLO using the 101, the first and last thing they see is underutilized land, occupied by a carwash, used car lots and beat up single story buildings with no relationship to architectural massing or connection to the vibrant SLO downtown. San Luis Square preserves and compliments the industrial character of the neighborhood with brick and steel. It creates a new destination for people to enjoy. The walkways and shops within the heart of the project is spot on and mimics what has been successful in the Shopping District development. More housing in SLO is always something I will get behind, but it makes it easy when community members are offering to build projects like San Luis Square. I hope ARC agrees, as well.
