Subject:Vote to Approve San Luis Ranch
Dear City Council: Heidi Harmon, Aaron Gomez, Andy Pease, Carlyn Christianson, and Dan Rivoire,
As a former employee of the City, and a long-time business owner in San Luis, I am gratified to see
the City taking positive steps to address the housing imbalance within the City. Over the many years
that I have been involved in the housing industry, I was continually dismayed over the lack of courage
that previous City Councils have shown to approve housing for the workers who trek into San Luis
from other parts of the County for their employment. The impacts to our transportation system, not to
mention air quality impacts from commuters coming into town for work, is showing the effects from
failing to address the need to house our workers within the community. At last, and in contrast to the
past, your Council is showing the courage and commitment to address the need for housing, and for
that I commend you.
Before you tonight is a project that is long overdue for the community. It appears to me that the
developer has made significant concessions to meet the housing affordability need, and the result will
be truly beneficial to San Luis on so many levels. I sincerely hope that you take swift and positive
action tonight to approve the project and send a message to the region that you believe in the need
for providing housing that the business community needs for their employees. The action you take
tonight to approve the San Luis Ranch project will bring us one step closer to offering the workers in
San Luis the chance to participate in a more meaningful way in their community. New communities
like San Luis Ranch create an opportunity for our young residents to become part of an evolving
citizenry that will help to shape the future of San Luis Obispo for generation to come. Looking
forward is the right course for the City to take.
Thanks for making housing a priority !!
Dan Lloyd
