RE: Norcross House Restoration: Outline of salient facts and summary of presentation points for hearing
on July 24, 2017. We believe the proposed project complies with all the Historical and Design Standards
for the Secretary of Interior and the City if San Luis Obispo Historic Guidelines for the Norcross House:
1. We have studied the LSA report on the rear addition as to its historic significance. We conclude
there is nothing worthy of restoring in that remaining structure as it has been severely altered
and it contains little recognizable features to restore. See photo survey.
2. The rear addition portions are non-contributing to the historic fabric of the stand-alone 16 x 30
original Norcross House.
3. The rear earlier addition in the period of significance (1874-1889) was rebuilt and altered an all
sides that it does not contain any recognizable features except for possibly the three windows
on the West side. 4 out of 5 sides have been altered.
4. The rear addition is not an important addition and was not built to the standards of the original
house. There is no foundation and can’t be moved. We propose to rebuild the salvageable
portions of the addition and replace degraded materials.
5. Under SOI Standards portions of the house that are not historically important can be
deconstructed or removed.
We are submitting this letter to simplify our intent so that you can understand why the project should
move forward. We have covered all requirements and met the intent of restoration and look forward to
start saving this rapidly deteriorating historic resource. Thank you.
