Subject: Support for Norcross House Rehabilitation, 546 Higuera Street
I am writing to you to provide my full support to the subject rehabilitation project as
proposed by the owners, and am hoping that the City will move this project forward on
an expedited basis for the betterment of the downtown area.
I own the Law Store Plus which is located next door to the project. I ran into John
Belsher, who explained to me what the project entails, as well as some of the problems he
is facing in trying to get it implemented. Frankly, the current house located at 546
Higuera Street, which has now been named the Norcross House, requires immediate
renovation. It detrimentally impacts my business, as well as the downtown area, to have
the renovation efforts stalled in any way.
The current project will result in a significant improvement that benefits the community.
It is my opinion that if the “essence” of its historical significance is preserved, we’ve
done our job. The second part of our job would be to assure that the present and future
world benefits from our efforts. The exact historical details may be unclear, but let’s not
get hung up on them. You will be creating that historical significance by moving this
project forward, and the world will be a better place. If the project fails, the downtown
area may be irreparably harmed for many years to come. I, for one, would be forced to
relocate my business in order to avoid being adjacent to a never-ending work in progress.
