Thanks! To: SLO Tree Committee Re: Tree Removals From: Allan Cooper, Secretary Save Our Downtown Date: July, 23, 2017 Dear Chair Loosly and Committee Members - I am urging you to reconsider removing two street trees located within our Downtown Core. Both trees at 774 Marsh Street and 1137 Garden Street appear to be healthy and, contrary to the City’s report, there is no root displacement evident by inspecting the sidewalks. Unlike the ficus trees, carrotwood trees are slow growing and are not known for their root disruption. Specifically, regarding the tree at 1137 Garden Street, developer Hamish Marshall made repeated assurances to the City that no trees would be removed as a result of the Garden Street Terraces project. Moreover, it is not clear that the tree’s stability would be compromised by maintaining the tree well in its present location (see below) when the replacement sidewalk is lowered. With regards to the tree in front of the Snyder Building (774 Marsh St.), the existing storm drain is located approximately 4 feet west of the carrotwood so it is hard for me to understand how it could be located “directly over an existing storm drain pipe”. Thank you!
