WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13, 2013 MINUTES CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Elizabeth Thyne called the meeting to order at 2:35 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Elizabeth Thyne, Art Apruzzese, Jody Frey, Todd Katz, Susan Rains, Louise Justice and Jean Long Staff: John Webster, Dee Lawson ANNOUNCEMENTS The MTC thanked Art Apruzzese, Jean Long, and Susan Rains for their service to the committee as they were stepping down. PUBLIC COMMENTS Geoff Straw welcomed Todd Katz as a new member of the RTA Advisory Committee. A. CONSENT ITEMS A-1. Approval of January 9, 2013 Regular Meeting Mr. Katz moved to approve the minutes as submitted. Mr. Apruzzese seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. B. DISCUSSION ITEMS There were no discussion items. C. ACTION ITEMS C-1. Trolley Marketing Campaign – Ad Hoc Committee Approved Regular MTC meeting May 8, 2013 Mr. Apruzzese discussed the status of the ad hoc committee and student activities/presentations to create an ad campaign for the Trolley with a goal of increasing ridership and visibility of the Trolley service within the community. He and Dee Lawson presented examples of the various graphic treatments. Ms. Lawson noted that a Cal Poly student would work with the City to implement the Trolley campaign. Mr. Apruzzese moved to seek a MTC vote for the preferred version approval. Ms. Justice seconded the motion. After discussion, the MTC agreed that the “There and Back” campaign was preferred. D. INFORMATION ITEMS D-1. Transit Manager’s Report D-2. Operating-Performance Reports Mr. Webster presented highlight discussion on the reports. He reported a concern about the Cal Poly ridership being down from the high rate of riders last year. He stated staff was monitoring the situation and would keep the committee advised. He also stated that a possible reason might be the good weather this winter that resulted in more students taking a bike or walking. D-3. SLO Marathon Impact Update Mr. Webster and Ms. Lawson discussed the proposed Sunday bus service schedule for SLO Marathon scheduled for April 7, 2013 event Ms. Lawson discussed the revised schedules for Rt. 2, 3, 4, and 5 and assured the committee that the schedule changes would be heavily noticed and posted in the local media. Mr. Straw discussed the noticing efforts for RTA and agreed to coordinate efforts with First Transit so there was maximum efficiency and coverage for the event schedules. Mr. Katz suggested including a local taxi number in any printed materials as an alternative to limited bus scheduling. MEMBER COMMENTS Approved Regular MTC meeting May 8, 2013 Ms. Justice that there was no reduced service during Cal Poly’s spring break. She also noted that on occasion only a voice recording is available when passengers call the transit facility after 5 pm but buses are still operating. She would like to this this changed if possible.
