Dear Chairman and Planning Commission,
RECEIVED
CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
AUG 0 4 2011
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Please consider our letter attached, and we ask that you move forward with the entitlements including the Specific Plan
Amendment, General Plan amendment, Rezone, Development Plan/tentative tract map and certification of the final EIR. We
must be able to accommodate the housing needs of our community and this project will help make that happen in an
important way. Thank you for your consideration of our company's request to allow our employees to live and work here and
thrive.

Re: Avila Ranch Development
In advance of the Tuesday, August 8th, 2107 Planning Commission meeting, I wish to encourage your
processing of the existing Avila Ranch for approval in its current form. This project is one that is so
important to provide work force housing in our community. So many of our employees in San Luis
Obispo cannot find affordable housing, thereby requiring them to commute daily to their jobs. This
housing is needed so badly to reduce traffic, air pollution and congestion. This is in addition to the loss of
productive human resources driving to and from work each day.
This project has been specifically designed for smaller units and affordability, and includes amenities that
support our way of life in San Luis Obispo, and our culture here. The concepts that have been created
within the development have taken advantage of the goals of our community development and the
General Plan, including everything envisioned in the LUCE. This project is being developed by a local
developer who has his heart in doing the right thing as the firm has roots in our community. The project
respects the beauty and agrarian feel of San Luis Obispo.
Having been involved in the Land Use Planning Process for over 40 years of my life, I believe this is one
of the best proposals this city has ever seen. This is the right project, in the right location, for the right
demographics and at the right time.
Please consider your vote carefully and provide your support for this critical project going forward of the
Avila Ranch Project and related entitlements, including a Specific Plan Amendment (Airport Area Specific
Plan), General Plan Amendment, Rezone, Development Plan/Tentative Tract Map, and certification of a
Final Environmental Impact Report that addresses these entitlements. Good planning is good for
everyone. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration in moving this great project forward. We
appreciate everyone's time and effort that goes into a project like this.
Sincerely,
