Subject: Support for Avila Ranch Project
Hello Planning Commission Members,
RECEIVED
CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
AUG 0 4 2017
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
I write this letter in support of the Avila Ranch project. I am a 27 year resident of the City of San Luis Obispo. I am
an employer, active in the Chamber of Commerce, and a former ARC Commissioner. I love this community and have
been very fortunate to have been able to stay in the area after graduating from Cal Poly, unlike many of my fellow
graduates.
I've written letters in the past supporting these type of development projects within the City limits because as an
employer in the city of San Luis Obispo, I witness on a daily basis how difficult it is for my employees to live in the
place they work. More than half my staff commute to work from neighboring cities. Increasing the availability of
housing for the growing workforce is crucial to the City maintaining economic vitality. We are losing talent from our
community when Cal Poly graduates who want to work in the place they love, cannot afford housing and are forced to
move out of the area. Additionally, we are unable to attract experienced professionals to San Luis Obispo as housing
prices versus wages offered are not economically viable.
San Luis Obispo needs housing. The Avila Ranch project is a well thought out development, in a great location. The
amenities to the community in the form of parks and neighborhood serving commercial will be an excellent addition
to the south side of town. Please support this project moving forward.
Thank you,
I Michelle McCovey-Good, P.E.
