Honorable Chair Wynn and Commissioners -
It is refreshing and even encouraging to finally see a project come before
the City that attempts to conform to the Downtown Community Design
Guidelines. This project conveys the scale, color and character of
buildings typically located within the Downtown Core.
Good contextual design dictates that the Downtown Core not become the
repository for cutting edge (or “edgy”) building designs. If San Luis Obispo
must be the recipient of design appliqué where one cuts and pastes
decorations and ornament onto four sides of dull boxes then please
relegate these incongruous and over-preening buildings to Aero Vista or
Autopark Way.
If this project contained housing or if this project were located contiguous
to a residential neighborhood Save Our Downtown would have concerns
with the 50% parking reduction because of the resulting 24-7 spillover of
parked cars into already under-parked areas of the City. However this is
not the case. We commend RRM for exercising restraint and abiding with
the Guidelines. Thank you!
