Dear ARC:
I am writing to express my frustration with attempting to follow your meeting deliberations. I had written you
prior to your July 10 meeting, when you considered the lack of the developer of 1135 Santa Rosa Street to
follow your directions with regards to paint colors and other architectural features on the finish of his
building.
The 'action update' for your discussion of this item simply states, "continued, with direction to the
applicant". This is so vague as to be of absolutely no value whatsoever in having any idea of your
discussion. The other item you addressed - 35 Prado Road - states simply " Direction Provided, no action
taken". This is equally vague, and while the wording is different, what is the difference between these two
actions?
I believe you want citizens to be engaged and involved in your deliberations, but by not providing
meaningful feedback to the public about your meeting deliberations, you make this needlessly difficult and
you discourage public participation.
Lastly, the most recent minutes of your meetings posted online are from April 3, 2017, now more than four
months ago. Why must it take so long to post meeting minutes online?
It appears on July 17 you approved minutes from meetings held Apr 17 and May 1, and on Aug 7 you
approved minutes from meetings held June 5 and June 19. 1 don't understand why there needs be such a
lag between the actual meeting date and approval of minutes, nor why once minutes are approved they are
not immediately uploaded to the city's website? Perhaps you could in the interim period between a meeting
and the minutes approval post something like 'draft minutes' or 'draft discussion' or something similar?
I hope you will address these issues and make it easier for the public to follow up on items your
commission addresses.
Thank you.
Regards,
John Grady
