HomeMy WebLinkAbout8/15/2017 Item 16, Boyle My name is Tom Boyle. I live at 239 Almond Street. I am opposed to the city's Bicycle Boulevard proposals. My family and I have lived in the city since 1946 and on Almond Street since 1976. I believe the proposals tonight are solutions in search of a problem. I do not believe any of the proposals should be imposed on the resident of the areas between Foothill and Lincoln Streets. The curent speed bumps are disruptive to traffic flow, resulting in vehicles moving to Chorro Street. Through traffic, either to the neighborhoods or Highway 101 continue unabated, though inconvenienced. Regarding Alternatives 1 and 3 —I believe the proposed solutions actually create a larger problem than the current condition. It is my view that you are simply delaying and shifting traffic to a quiet, traditional neighborhood with ages ranging from 30's to 90's, children (2 ages @ 10 years, 2 under 5 years old, and 2 under 2 years old.) Aesthetically, both are unappealing, destroy the neighborhood ambiance that makes this family centered neighborhood unique. The turnabouts or diverters are, in my opinion dysfunctional and inappropriate due to the small street area they will be built in and will actually result in more congestion that exists presently in the city's view. Regarding Alternative 2 —If the city is bent on imposing one of these options, I view Alternative 2, without additional speed bumps, a better (though an undesired) choice. I further believe a better way to spend taxpayer money would be an examination of the city's planning process and department, if traffic truly is this large an issue. It was yo planning department that reviews policies, development plans and then makes recommendations to you; which received your approval even though neighborhood input was received and ignored, that has allowed questionable, large development on the periphery of these neighborhoods that will negatively impact traffic flow, vehicle and pedestrian safety, and ultimately degrade our neighborhoods.
