These trees are part of San Luis Obispo's unique charm and character. In addition to the aesthetics, our large downtown trees provide shade that cools the downtown. These are drought resistant trees with a deep root base--any replacements will surely increase the city's water needs at a time when water use is a serious concern. I further protest the removal of trees to add downtown parking. If anything, downtown parking should be limited to those with disabilities to reduce congestion and danger to pedestrians. Parking on the exterior of the downtown core would encourage a more pedestrian friendly--not to mention climate friendly--downtown. This would likely provide economic benefits to downtown shops as well. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Robin Schwartz 1
