As residents of the Luneta Drive neighborhood, specifically Palomar Avenue, we are very concerned with the future of our neighborhood. As a neighborhood community, we have worked extensively with the city to create this amendment which will help to keep our neighborhood peaceful and safe. We feel that the proposal is completely win-win. It simply makes permanent the closure of Luneta Drive, which has been in effect for at least the past 40 years. This is essentially a change on paper and does not involve additional cost to the city. The alternative of opening Luneta Drive to through traffic would have increased daily traffic on Luneta, Palomar and Serrano streets to several times their current daily volume, pushing Serrano over its maximum daily threshold and negatively impacting the city's plans for the Broad Street Bicycle Corridor at the base of Serrano Drive. This would result in creating numerous safety hazards, significantly increasing noise and overall destroying at least two relatively peaceful neighborhoods. Again, the proposal was developed by our neighborhood together with the city and is fully supported by local residents. It simply leaves things just as they are ... and have been for decades. Please vote in favor of the General Plan Amendment to Eliminate the Luneta Drive Connection. Your service to our community is appreciated. Thank you, Dan & Tess Matthews
