Mayor Heidi Harmon John Gardner --- 990 Palm Street August 15, 2017 Dear Mayor Harmon: In June I sent you a letter in support of the development known as the Avila Ranch. Since then the City Council approved the development known as the San Luis Ranch which will provide more than 500 families the opportunity to own a new home in the City of San Luis Obispo. Many of these families will no longer need to travel long distances to work or to enjoy what the city has to offer. Approval of the San Luis Ranch was not an easy decision as numerous economic, political and environmental concerns had to be addressed. I commend you on your leadership in voting for this project. In September, you will have the opportunity to help more families live closer to where they work, shop and play by approving the Avila Ranch project. From what I have read in the Tribune and observed at Planning Commission meetings, Avila Ranch has been carefully planned and seamlessly integrated into the fabric of the City of San Luis Obispo. You clearly invested a lot of time in helping shape this development as it has all the ingredients one would want in a SLO neighborhood --convenience, walkability, affordability, family friendly, beautifully designed and environmentally pleasing. On September 19th, your vote to approve Avila Ranch will start the process of turning drawings and dreams into reality. Although the reality of Avila Ranch is years away, I am looking forward to becoming a resident in this new neighborhood. Together San Luis Ranch and Avila Ranch provide something desperately needed by the citizens of the city and county of San Luis Obispo -- multiple levels of affordable housing for decades to come. Thank you for your continued leadership and voting to make Avila Ranch a reality.
