Subject: Avila Ranch Housing Project
CIJ7R,c
Dear City Council Members:
As a long time resident of San Luis Obispo, I am writing to voice the importance of the Avila Ranch housing project to the community and to
my family. I'm sure you're aware of the bleak housing situation available for middle and working class families. This project is the only
hope that my family has to own a home in this beautiful city. We are the working class. We are important.
My partner works as a machinist for an engineering firm in San Luis Obispo. He produces equipment to inspect and repair oil pipelines. I
am a social worker at a well established and respected non-profit. I have devoted my life to the service of people living in this
community. We are the people that you want to keep in San Luis Obispo. We are the little league coaches, the PTA parents, the bowl-a-
thon coordinators, the litter picker -uppers, the good neighbors.
We would love nothing more than to provide a safe, comfortable and stable home for our daughter Sammie to grow up in. She will become
the kind of adult that you want to keep in this community. We hope that the approval of this project may give her a better life than what we
can currently afford in San Luis Obispo.
Your approval of Avila Ranch will make a very real difference in our lives and our daughter's future.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Karen Akre
