I have 2 basic reasons for requesting your denial of the appeal: 1. Protect SLO Development Approval Process - I think it is critical for San Luis Obispo to protect and defend it's development approval and permitting process. If you allow the developer of the remodeled building at 11 35 Santa Rosa Street to get away with intentional non-compliance of previously approved exterior architectural building features, this would set a terribly bad precedent for future development projects. I believe allowing this willful non-compliance would weaken the authority of the Architectural Review Commission (ARC). The ARC represents the best interests of all SLO citizens, therefore their project review and approval process, and the decisions the ARC made for this project, must be respected and upheld. 2. The Remodeled Building Is Ugly - My bank is the Bank of America across the street from this building. I frequently go to the bank and see the eye sore which this building has become. From the first time I saw the finished building, I thought it is one of the ugliest buildings in SLO. It reminds me of the Star Trek Borg cube spaceship, which looks pretty cool in space but has no place in our city! The black exterior paint color is butt-ugly horrific, it does not compliment anything in the area and stands out like an ugly mole. The flat, cubicle shape of the building is unimaginatively plain and looks like the builder wanted to save money with a lack of architectural detail. The only good thing about the building’s exterior appearance is the landscaping. Whatever financial hardship the developer would incur by making the necessary building modifications to comply with their building permit is their own fault. It should serve as a lesson learned for other developers to respect the ARC and our community. Thanx for considering my comments. Dean Arrighi San Luis Obispo 1
