HomeMy WebLinkAboutExtended Open Space Public Comment, Seidel Christian, Kevin From:Tom Seidel < Sent:Thursday, To:E-mail Council Website Subject:Extended Open Space Hours during Winter Good Afternoon, I wanted to email the City Council in support of Extended Open Space Hours during the winter months to allow for many of us who work until 5pm, to take advantage of the wonderful open space trails that we have here in SLO. I take advantage of the open space at Johnson Ranch and Irish Hills at least twice weekly to either ride my Bicycle or hike these trails. I leave my office near 5pm and am usually done with my activities by 7:00-7:30pm in the evening. During the spring summer and fall seasons, this puts me off the trail while the sun is still above the horizon. However; once the time changes, my typical start time falls after the sun has set. I hope you understand, that time of year many of us show up to work in the dark and leave our offices in the dark. This transition is difficult enough, and to make matters worse, the outlet that many of us enjoy (use of the public open space) has also been taken away from us. We are forced to relocate our activities to either West Cuesta Grade, Montana De Oro, or somewhere else, none of which provide the safe location and well maintained trails that the public open space provides. When making your decision on this issue, please keep the working professionals in mind who frequent these trails. I believe we make up a silent majority of the people who take advantage of these trails. Have a wonderful day!
