Mayor Harmon
I am categorically opposed to opening public reserves to night hiking and biking for several reasons.
1. There are already problems with folks hiking and biking illegally at night on our open spaces. They
require emergency services when injured or missing while engaging in these activities in addition to
other concerns I've listed below.
2. Animals that are nocturnal will suffer from the interruptive nighttime activities of humans, thereby
cutting of food procurement, nesting and other activities that they currently engage in.
3. Animals that nest and burrow at night to sleep will also be disrupted and disturbed by human activity.
4. Trails, open space and vegetation will be subject to additional damage with increased use.
5. If one space is opened there will be additional pressure to open others for such use multiplying the
above problems.
Let nature be nature without additional intrusive behaviors from humans. There need to be time set aside for
wildlife to be wildlife without human interference. Thank you for your attention.
