Subject: I support item 10 (10/17/17) - Pilot program for after hours trail use
Dear Council,
I am a current resident of Atascadero, recent resident of SLO, and I have worked in SLO for the last 17 years. As a
member of CCCMB, hiker, and mountain biker, I have enjoyed SLO open spaces for many years. I have also contributed
my time, labor, and money to help build trails and maintain SLO open spaces.
As a hard working member of the community who also dedicates my free time to building and maintaining local trails, it
is especially disheartening during winter months when I and others like me cannot enjoy these trails after work during
the months when daylight is in short supply. It seems that use of these trails during weekday hours is a luxury afforded
only to those not trapped indoors during business hours.
I support Staff's plan for a conservative pilot program on the Cerro San Luis open space to extend and study trail usage
to a modest 8:30pm. This proposal is cautious, yet it provides the opportunity for all trail users to be represented and
have ample opportunity to enjoy public open space.
The pilot program proposed in item 10 on the agenda for 10/17/17 is very reasonable in that it affects only 5% of public
open space. Without the data sought from this carefully crafted plan, it will be impossible to evaluate future open space
proposals fairly.
I urge you to support this proposal and vote yes.
Thank you,
Peter Uzzi
