Subject:Night use of Open Space Preserves
Honorable Mayor & Council Members:
I am opposed to night hiking/biking on Cerro San Luis or any other preserve under the City's jurisdiction for
the following reasons: 1. SAFETY/COST, there has already been considerable expense to the tax payer for
search & rescue on the hills in SLO from people hiking/biking getting injured or lost in the darkness.
Legalization will only increase police-fire response with more injuries to the public.
2. WILDLIFE HABITAT, The presence of hiker/bikers will disturb the natural nocturnal life of all creatures on the
mountain.
Night hours on San Luis Mountain will be only the first of many other areas. Once that "slippery slope" has
been breached, it's very likely that lawsuits will follow because the City authorized night use. Then what?;
Installation of trail lighting, etc. up and down the hills at tax payer expense?
Please continue to allow use only during reasonable hours of our open space preserves.
Respectfully yours, Larry L. Todd
