Subject:Expanded access to open space in the winter months.
I would like to register my support for the limited expansion of access to SLO open space.
I support the City staff plan (Item 10 on the 10/17/17 City Council Agenda) for a two year pilot
program to expand hours of access for Cerro San Luis
I strongly feel this plan is cautious and conservative and is set up to carefully monitor potential
environmental impacts
Cerro San Luis open space comprises only about 5% of the acreage of all SLO Open Space. This
is a carefully constructed proposal that would only effect a fraction of our open space, but would
allow important after-dark trail access for hikers, runners, and mountain bikers.
I live within SLO City limits, in a neighborhood immediately adjacent to the proposed pilot program,
and do not feel this will negatively impact my neighborhood. Quite the opposite I feel this will
enhance our neighborhood with better access to the local trails.
I volunteer with CCCMB on trail-work days to help in construction and maintenance or our local
trails.
I do not feel this is in anyway inconsistent with the desire to preserve the open space and the
environmental needs thereof. I greatly value this resource, and want to be able to access it year-round in
a responsible and sustainable way.
