HomeMy WebLinkAboutExtended Open Space Public Comment, Potter From:Benjamin Potter > Sent:Monday, November To:E-mail Council Website Subject:Trail use after dark in SLO To Whom it may Concern, I am an avid hiker and mountain biker and I believe strongly in allowing utilization of our open spaces both during and after daylight hours. In the winter months, restricting trail use after sundown eliminates the possibility of enjoying these areas after work, and in the summer months, hiking or biking after dark is a unique and exciting experience that we are currently depriving our populace of. I personally do not believe in any restrictions placed on open space use, so the proposal of extending use to 8:30 pm is a step in the right direction, but still leaves in place an unnecessary restriction. There is no valid reason to prevent night hiking/biking. In my opinion SLO is simply giving in to some NIMBY attitudes of personnel located close to trailheads. Nightlife is not appreciably disturbed by hikers or bikers, and we already have noise ordinances and other laws on the books that prevent excessive disturbances in these areas at night. Please consider my views as a SLO resident and voting trail user. Put the responsibility of safe and reasonable use in the hands of the hiker/biker and remove these unnecessary overreaches of the SLO government.
