Re: Tree Removal Application/Gilbert/939 Skyline Dr/Dec 11 Tree Committee
This email is in support of my Tree Removal Application for 939 Skyline Dr.
I have a Canary Island Pine in the very front of my home that I have appreciated for many years. Sadly,
the tree has now caused me undue hardship for the following reasons:
1. One of the tree’s stabilizer roots has destroyed a lateral drain one foot from the tree base. In Picture 1,
you can see the drain outlet on the curb. I had to remove a section of the tree root to repair the drain…
causing potential harm to the tree.
2. The tree root has pushed up one section of our driveway. The difference between the two sections
is now about 1-2inches. (see Picture 2). I worry about the danger of someone tripping on the crack.
A contractor has advised me to remove the tree, dig up the root, remove the concrete, fill in the void
with tamping and gravel base, and repour.

3. We love out hillside home for its views of the hills. In Picture 3, you can see how this mature tree now
totally obscures our view of Bishop’s Peak.
If my application is approved, I will gladly plant on the property, another tree, native to the Central Coast.
Thanks
John Gilbert
