Hello Bike Committee,
I was at the meeting last night, but missed my opportunity to speak. And I have to be out of town Thursday, so wanted
to share some thoughts.
First, I was disappointed in the guy in black sport coat, from the Committee, who spoke at length toward the end of
public comments. Sorry I didn’t get his name. He was incredibly condescending. Basically saying those who don’t bike,
and are concerned about how this will impact them being able to park in front of their homes and unload their
groceries, have to just suck it up, cause its the way it’s going. I was shocked by his rudeness.
Second, in light of the disaster which is devastating our southern neighbors, and the potential for that happening here,
with a mass evacuation, how does the fire department feel about closing off streets, putting up barriers and bumps,
hindering quick egress from this neighborhood?
This is a NEW and PRESSING factor which must be addressed in your studies, BEFORE a decision is made. Ventura was so
lucky they didn’t have any deaths, as that first night over 20,000 had to evacuate in a few hours, in the dark. A similar
emergency will happen, just a matter of when. And our city needs a plausible plan.
Third, it seems the most logical plan is the Lincoln Street path. No stops signs, quiet and safe. Paint a green lane, put up
a few signs, relatively inexpensive, less loss of parking.
Sometimes we forget that common sense is usually the best solution.
Thanks, Debbie Anthony
