Council Members, I could just re-type my letter to your predecessors written in 2013 - to no avail. I questioned then
why rate tiers were changed from three (3) to two (2). I'm requesting that in your study session February 6, you again
revisit increasing the tiers to AT LEAST three.
I appreciate very much the quality of water that reliably flows into my home. I don’t mind sharing the cost of bringing
the water to my house. I do mind that there is so little difference in cost per unit of a low water user compared to what
a high user pays (tier 2.)
I request you consider 3 (or 4) rate tiers: one for low users (1-2 units) one for average users and one for high users. I
would like to see high users pay a lot more per unit that either tier one and two. Most SLO citizens have been
conscientious in conserving (which has caused budgeting problems!) However, those who use water indifferently and
because they can afford to be wasteful should pay for it - dearly.
Thank you,
Jane Shoemaker
