Dear members of the MTC -
Please consider removing the bus stops from Phillips Lane. They are unnecessary, and they contribute to neighborhood impacts that should
have been solved long ago. It is not lost on those of us who have been paying attention that SLO Transit was able to meet the requests of a
student survey for increased service shortly after its publication in the Mustang Daily. Meanwhile, this expanded impacts to our
neighborhood that remain at least two years after an MTC meeting where you all understood that bus service would be removed from
Phillips/Pepper.
I understand that you are evaluating ridership at the Phillips bus stops. With two more bus stops serving the same route within such a short
distance on Mill St., I wonder why ridership numbers at the Phillips stops are at all relevant. Those who currently use the Phillips stops will
continue to SLO Transit via the two stops 1/10 of a mile away, on Mill St. In light of those stops on Mill St, maintaining the bus stops on
Phillips says nothing for the efficient operation of SLO Transit.
The fact that some people choose to use these stops, when another viable alternative already exists, is not a reason that the impacts to our
neighborhood should continue to exist unmitigated.
And, do not believe for one second the line of thought that says: “Well, the bus has to go down that street anyways, so what’s the
difference in including two extra stops?” To those that live in the neighborhood, the difference is clear.
Please listen to our neighborhood, and make a decision with us in mind.
Sincerely,
Dana Lee
