HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/16/2018 Item 9, Hurd From:Dia Hurd < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:night biking council members: It is difficult to continue to push a more ill conceived plan than this. It is dangerous: to the riders, to the walking/hiking public, but mostly to the animals. This plan ignores the purpose of the protected open space areas in our city. It also ignores the wish of the current residents, many of whom do not know and are unaware of the insidious plan afoot to push for the degradation of the most beautiful of open space perhaps in the whole City. By the City's own rules, this plan is not approvable. And to continue to say that "the people want this," is just an outright insult to the residents. The majority of those who want this plan do not live here, yet they hold sway over three of our council members. As with nearly all bicycle issues, the Council Members speak mostly for the minority of residents, choosing to ignore the locals, who would and have put their voice to the violence of this proposal of night biking. When residents are allegedly for this type of a project, we all can safely assume many voices do not even live here. Much like the numbers of "residents" that want the type of off campus dorm style housing. Please do not pass this insult to the land. Our open space is just that. Folks can joyfully walk and hike without interference from stunt bikers, many of whom have no desire to control their behavior The stereotype existed in our former city of residence. If allowed, this will destroy the entire area of land offered for sacrifice. And, as I have mentioned in a previous email, the first biker to be seriously injured or killed will bankrupt the city, as if it isn't already, with a family filed law suit. Where is Christine on this? This is unacceptable. Stop NOW! And thank you to two of the Council members whom I have been told do NOT think this is a good idea. dia hurd, actual resident of slo 1
