HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/16/2018 Item 9, Stanley From:Leslie Stanley < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:Nighttime Use of Open Space Regarding opening up some Open Spaces to Night Hiking: I used to work out in the morning before daylight. I felt confident running on level paths, dirt or concrete, but would not have felt that way on dirt trails that rose and fell. So I don’t picture nighttime visitors running. And I don’t imagine these people will be walking, simply because at night you can’t see the scenery, so what’s the point? I DO imagine they’ll be riding bicycles on the trails, using a strong headlight, and skidding around the turns. And I DO imagine they’ll enjoy sitting around a small fire, drinking wine or whatever. Neither of these activities sounds good for our Open Spaces! In addition to these concerns, I feel: 1) People moving around in the evening will eventually chase all the wildlife away; and 2) This useage is contrary to the wishes of whoever donated Open Space to SLO in the first place. I strongly recommend leaving the rules as they are. There are enough people violating them now. I see headlamps moving around Bishop Peak every single night. Sincerely, --Leslie Stanley San Luis Obispo 1
